Oreo balls are a no bake dessert that’s made with blended oreos and cream cheese. You mix those ingredients together until thick, roll in balls, and dip in melted chocolate.

Oreo balls have evolved in so many ways. We’re big fans of turning our oreo balls into cute shapes or stuffing them with surprises.

So we’ll show you how to up your oreo ball game with these TURTLE oreo balls!

Turtle desserts consist of 3 things – chocolate, caramel and nuts. Enough said, I could end there and be happy for the rest of my days!

Like most oreo balls, this recipe starts by mixing cream cheese with oreo crumbs. Then we add two surprises – chopped pecans get mixed into the oreo cream cheese mixture and we stuff each oreo ball with a Rolo.

Repeat – Rolo’s! Inside each oreo ball!!!

The whole thing then gets dipped in chocolate candiquik or chocolate almond bark and I like to add chopped pecans or a whole pecan on top of each ball for a fancy presentation.

Ingredients

  • oreos
  • cream cheese

How to Make Oreo Balls

Blend. Combine oreo crumbs and cream cheese with mixer until thick.

Pecans. Add chopped pecans, mix again.

Rolo. Place a rolo inside each oreo balls, roll into a ball.

Dip. Melt the chocolate. Then dip one oreo ball into the chocolate at a time.

Pecans. Top the oreo balls with chopped pecans or a whole pecan.

Temperature of Oreo Balls

It’s important that oreo balls are’t too cold or frozen before you dip them. If you dip oreo balls that are frozen or very cold, the chocolate coating will crack as it sets because of the extreme temperature change.

The best way to avoid cracking is to place the oreo balls in the fridge to chill for 20 minutes, then dip them.

Do Oreo Balls Need To Be Refrigerated?

Oreo balls should be kept in the fridge until you serve them. Plus, most people think oreo balls taste best when cold.

However, oreo balls can be left at room temperature. According to the FDA, cream cheese can be left out at room temperature for up to 2 hours.

How long will oreo balls keep?

Place oreo balls in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Need them to last longer? Read the next point about freezing them!

Tips for Success

Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat. If you don’t have a silicone baking mat, use parchment paper. As you’re forming the oreo balls, place them on the lined baking sheet and place them in the fridge for 20 minutes to chill.

To dip the balls, place 1 oreo balls in the pot with melted chocolate. Use a spoon to spoon chocolate on top, if needed. To remove the oreo ball, use a fork to lift it out of the chocolate.

To remove excess chocolate from the oreo ball on the fork, scrape the bottom of the fork on the edge of the pot to remove  chocolate, then put the oreo ball back on the silicone baking mat.

Turtle Oreo Balls

The ultimate turtle oreo ball with chocolate, caramel and nuts! Each oreo ball is stuffed with a ROLO!

Ingredients

  • 1 package oreos
  • 1 package cream cheese, 8 oz, softened
  • ½ cup finely chopped pecans
  • rolo’s, one for each oreo ball
  • chocolate candiquik/almond bark
  • extra finely chopped pecans or pecan halves to top oreo balls

Instructions 

  • Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature.
  • Put half of the oreos in the food processor/blender and pulse until you have oreo crumbs. Add the other half of the oreos to the food processor and pulse again, until all the oreos are fine crumbs.
  • Transfer the oreo crumbs to a mixing bowl, add the cream cheese and 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans, use a hand mixer to mix until will blended.
  • Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat. Use a small cookie scoop to form uniform oreo balls. Place a Rolo inside each oreo ball, roll it into a ball and place on the baking sheet. Refrigerate the oreo balls for 20 minutes.
  •  After 20 minutes, begin to melt the chocolate candiquik/almond bark in a small pot over low heat on the stove. Stir occasionally until completed melted.
  • Remove the oreo balls from the fridge. To dip, place 1 oreo balls in the pot with melted chocolate. Use a spoon to spoon chocolate on top, if needed. To remove the oreo ball, use a fork to lift it out of the chocolate. To remove excess chocolate from the oreo ball on the fork, scrape the bottom of the fork on the edge of the pot to remove  chocolate, then put the oreo ball back on the silicone baking mat. Continue this process until all the oreo balls are dipped. I like to let each oreo ball sit for about 1 minute before sprinkling extra chopped pecans on top – that way the pecans don’t fall off the oreo ball because the chocolate isn’t too hot.
  • Allow them to harden at room temperature. Serve and enjoy.

    1. Hi Stephanie! I’m not sure how many extra oreos are in the family pack.. you may be okay, otherwise you can add an additional 2 tbsp cream cheese perhaps!

    1. Yes, as long as you properly package them for the freezer.

      1. Flash freeze them. Place the balls on a silicone mat lined baking sheet in the freezer, and freeze until frozen.
      2. Then wrap bundles of 6-8 balls together in plastic wrap and place inside a freezer container or ziplock bag.
      3. Oreo balls will keep in the freezer for up to 2 months. To thaw, place the entire bag or individual bundles in the fridge overnight. Once thawed, unwrap the bundles. There may be condensation that you need to blot with a paper towel.
