How to Make Bunny Bait
This fun snack mix is one of the easiest Easter treats you can make! Get the full ingredients and instructions in the recipe card below.
Prepare baking sheet. Line a rimmed baking sheet with a silicone baking mat, parchment paper or wax paper and set aside.
Mix dry ingredients. Combine chex cereal, honey nut cheerios, pretzels, and M&Ms in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
Combine chocolate and shortening. In a microwave safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and vegetable shortening. Microwave on 50% power for 1 minute. Stir, then add additional time as needed until completely smooth and melted.
Combine all ingredients. Pour the melted chocolate over the cereal mixture and stir until evenly coated.
Add to prepared baking sheet. Spread the mixture into an even layer on the lined baking sheet and immediately sprinkle the sprinkles over the top.
Cool. Allow the chocolate to harden at room temperature for 30 minutes to an hour before breaking it into small pieces and serving.
Tips for the Best Easter Bunny Bait
- Use fresh ingredients. Ensure your cereal and pretzels are fresh. If your ingredients are stale, you will not have that nice crunch.
- Use high-quality white chocolate chips. For the best taste, I recommend using high-quality white chocolate chips for the white chocolate coating.
- Move quickly with the melted white chocolate. Once the chocolate is melted, you will need to move quickly so that it does not set before the cereal mix is evenly coated.
- Speed up the chocolate hardening. If you are in a hurry for the chocolate to set, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to help the chocolate harden.
Substitutions & Variations
- Add Reese’s pieces. Add or substitute Reese’s pieces instead of M&M’s.
- Add popcorn. Add or substitute popcorn instead of cheerios for an even more salty Easter snack mix.
Storing Bunny Bait
Store this easy bunny bait snack mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to four days.
