The ultimate holiday oreo balls – Peppermint Oreo Balls.
Each Christmas oreo ball has a peppermint Hershey’s kiss stuffed inside!
I feel like people start breaking out the oreo balls during the holidays!
I think oreo balls are an any kind of celebration dessert, but it’s fun to make them extra christmas-y during this season.
Oreo balls are a no bake dessert that’s made with blended oreos and cream cheese. You mix those ingredients together until thick, roll in balls, and dip in melted chocolate.
If you love oreo balls and want to pair these with another fun recipe – one of my favorite ways to make Christmas oreo balls extra special is to mini cookie cutters!
Instead of rolling the oreo mixture into a ball, I press the mixture onto a baking sheet and use a cookie cutter to cut out my desired shape.
Place the cut out shapes on another baking sheet and put them in the freezer for 20 minutes to harden before dipping them! They are so fun – we’ve done this for candy cane oreo balls and gingerbread men oreo balls.
Why You’ll Love Them
- simple pantry ingredients
- no baking required
- a Christmas treat the whole family can help make
- customizable depending on your preferences
These aren’t just any oreo balls, these oreo balls have a peppermint Hershey’s kiss inside of them! The kiss inside is a very fun surprise. These are perfect to include in cookie tins or to make for a holiday party. Pair them with Turtle Bark, Chocolate Cherry Cookies and Haystack Cookies.
Ingredients
- oreos
- cream cheese
- peppermint extract
- peppermint kisses
- chocolate and/or vanilla almond bark for dipping the oreo balls
- crushed candy canes
The method I used today to make these oreo balls extra special is called…. the stuffing method!
Yes, self explanatory because you stuff the inside of the oreo ball with something delicious.
To keep in line with all things peppermint I choose to stuff these oreo balls with peppermint kisses.
But it gets even better because I used 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract IN the oreo mixture. Yep. It’s the ultimate chocolate peppermint treat!
How to Make Oreo Balls
Room temperature. Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature.
Blend oreos. Put half of the oreos in the food processor (or blender) and pulse until you have oreo crumbs. Add the other half of the oreos to the food processor and pulse again, until all the oreos are fine crumbs.
Add cream cheese. Transfer the oreo crumbs to be mixing bowl. Add the cream cheese and peppermint extract and blend using an electric mixer until smooth.
Roll. Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat. Use a small cookie scoop to form uniform oreo balls.
Stuff. Place a peppermint kiss inside each oreo ball, roll it into a ball and place on the baking sheet. Refridgerate the oreo balls for 20 minutes.
Crush candy canes. Meanwhile, place the candy canes in a ziploc bag, cover with a towel and use a rolling pin to crush them into small pieces. Set aside.
Dip. Melt the chocolate and dip one oreo ball at a time in the chocolate. Top with crushed candy canes.
Temperature of Oreo Balls
It’s important that peppermint oreo balls are’t too cold or frozen before you dip them. If you dip oreo balls that are frozen or very cold, the chocolate coating will crack as it sets because of the extreme temperature change.
The best way to avoid cracking is to place the oreo balls in the fridge to chill for 20 minutes, then dip them.
Do Oreo Balls need to be Refrigerated?
Oreo balls should be kept in the fridge until you serve them. Plus, most people think oreo balls taste best when cold.
Oreo balls can be left at room temperature. According to the FDA, cream cheese can be left out at room temperature for up to 2 hours.
Tips for Oreo Balls
Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat. If you don’t have a silicone baking mat, use parchment paper. As you’re forming the oreo balls, place them on the lined baking sheet and place them in the fridge for 20 minutes to chill.
To dip the Christmas oreo balls, place 1 oreo balls in the pot with melted chocolate. Use a spoon to spoon chocolate on top, if needed. To remove the oreo ball, use a fork to lift it out of the chocolate.
To remove excess chocolate from the oreo ball on the fork, scrape the bottom of the fork on the edge of the pot to remove chocolate, then put the oreo ball back on the silicone baking mat.
If you top the oreo balls with crushed candy canes and then store the balls in the fridge, the candy canes and outside coating of the balls become sticky. Doesn’t affect the taste – but I wanted to make it known!

Peppermint Oreo Balls
Ingredients
- 1 package oreos, about 36 cookies
- 1 package regular cream cheese, 8 oz, softened
- ½ tsp peppermint extract
- Peppermint hershey’s kisses
- Chocolate and/or vanilla almond bark for dipping the oreo balls
- Crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature.
- Put half of the oreos in the food processor (or blender) and pulse until you have oreo crumbs. Add the other half of the oreos to the food processor and pulse again, until all the oreos are fine crumbs.
- Transfer the oreo crumbs to be mixing bowl. Add the cream cheese and peppermint extract and blend using an electric mixer until smooth.
- Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat. Use a small cookie scoop to form uniform oreo balls. Place a peppermint kiss inside each oreo ball, roll it into a ball and place on the baking sheet. Refridgerate the oreo balls for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, place the candy canes in a ziploc bag, cover with a towel and use a rolling pin to crush them into small pieces. Set aside.
- After 20 minutes, begin to melt the chocolate and/or white chocolate almond bark in a small pot over low heat on the stove. Stir occasionally until the bark is completed melted.
- Remove the oreo balls from the fridge. To dip, place 1 oreo balls in the pot with melted chocolate. Continue this process until all the oreo balls are dipped. I like to let each oreo ball sit for about 1 minute before sprinkling the crushed candy cane on top – that way the candy cane doesn’t fall off the oreo ball because the chocolate isn’t too hot.
- Allow them to harden at room temperature. Store in the fridge.

The recipe sounds amazingly refreshing so I went out to purchase ingredients. I was able to find everything except the kisses so I purchased peppermint M & M’s. I hope it turns out good because I’m making these for my child’s school teachers for Christmas ????
I bet it will be awesome with peppermint m&ms hiding inside!
Walmart has them
How far ahead can these be made? If I make them and store them in the refrigerator, they’ll be sitting out on Christmas Eve- will they sweat?
Can you you use a blender if you don’t have a food processor for this recipe
Yes!
I just made these. Had trouble finding the peppermint mocha creamer and the peppermint kisses. Went to 3 markets. I bought sweet cream creamer and cookies and cream kisses. I think they would be better w the mint but I had no choice :(
What kind of chocolate do you use? I have Baker’s choc. in semi sweet or milk. Wondering what would taste best with mixture. Thanks.
I use chocolate candiquik or chocolate almond bark for dipping oreo balls – that’s the kind of chocolate that hardens once it cools!
I live inear Scotland and don’t have access to the peppermint creamer what other kind of stuff I substitute for it.
how many calories in one ball?
I am struggling with this recipe. The mixture is so wet that I can’t form it into balls. I even added more oreos. Not sure what it did wrong but I’m really disappointed. They sound really good.
Hi Lynne! You can omit the peppermint creamer and use 1/4 tsp peppermint extract in its place!
