Frankenstein halloween pretzels are made with candy melts, pretzels, and a few other simple ingredients! Kids can definitely help with this easy halloween treat!
This is an explosion of halloween cuteness!
After I started brainstorming ideas for these candy corn pretzels, I knew there must be more things you can make with pretzels and candy melts.
Thank goodness for the creator of the square pretzel or the waffle pretzel as they are officially coined because now we can make edible frankensteins!
Frankenstein Halloween pretzel ingredients
- square or waffle pretzels
- green candy melts
- black candy melts
- red candy melts
- a little bit of vegetable shortening to help melt the candy melts
- brown sprinkles
- candy eye balls *or as a substitution use white candy melts and black candy melts
- broken pretzel sticks
Suggested kitchen tools
- baking sheet lined with a silicone baking mat or wax paper
- small pot and stove
- fork and toothpick
- squeeze bottles or similar device
Tips and tricks
- Only dip one pretzel into the green chocolate at a time.
- Use a fork to fish the pretzel out of the chocolate, gently taping the fork against the pot to release excess chocolate and scrap the fork on the side of the pot.
- Work in batches. Once you have a handful of pretzels dipped in green chocolate make sure you add the brown sprinkles, candy eye balls, and broken pretzel sticks before the green chocolate sets.
- Go back and add all of the red scars and black mouths at the very end, doing them all at the same time.
- If you want to skip the candy eye balls use white candy melts and black candy melts to create eye balls. Add 2 white circles where you’d want the eyes to be then add smaller black circles inside.
- Use a toothpick to help remove the green dipped pretzel from the fork onto the baking sheet.
I used small squeeze bottles to add the details to Frankenstein’s face. While decorating squeeze bottles come in handy, I know they aren’t the most common thing to find in everyone’s kitchen so a quick alternative would be to put the melted chocolate in a quart sized ziploc bag and cut a tiny hole in one corner. I recommend quart sized bags because the plastic is typically heavier than sandwich bags.
Have fun making little edible Frankensteins! If you have leftover pretzels, I love all these ideas of what to dip pretzels in!

Frankenstein Pretzels
Ingredients
- square or waffle pretzels
- green candy melts
- black candy melts
- red candy melts
- a little bit of vegetable shortening to help melt the candy melts
- brown sprinkles
- candy eye balls *or as a substitution use white candy melts and black candy melts
- broken pretzel sticks
Instructions
- In a small pot over low heat on the stove, melt the green candy melts with a small amount of vegetable shortening. The shortening will help to thin out the chocolate. Stir occasionally until melted.
- Place a baking sheet lined with a silicone baking mat or wax paper near your work area. Place one waffle pretzel in the melted chocolate at a time, using a fork to fish the pretzel out of the chocolate, taping the fork against the side of the pot to remove excess chocolate. Transfer the pretzel to the lined baking sheet using a toothpick to help you slide the pretzel off.
- Once you have a handful of pretzels dipped make sure you add the brown sprinkles as hair, candy eye balls (if using), and broken pretzel sticks for Frankenstein’s bolts before the green chocolate sets.
- Once the green chocolate is a bit more set, prepare to add the red scars and black mouths by melting the appropriate colors in separate pots as you did the green candy melts. If you want to skip the candy eye balls use white candy melts and black candy melts to create eye balls. Add 2 white circles where you’d want the eyes to be then add smaller black circles inside.
- Allow the chocolate to harden completely before removing from the baking sheet and serving.

These look so stinking cute!! I can’t wait to try them with my nieces and nephews!
The boys would love making these. Very creative!
They would like to eat them too I’m guessing!
They turned out ridiculously adorable! A little labor intensive, but so worth it! I brought them to a halloween movie night! Thanks!
