This Easy Banana Chocolate Chip Bread is one of those recipes that you can pull together in about 10 minutes.

I like to think of it as the perfect sunday afternoon recipe. I’ll be relaxing around the house and I’ll decide that I want banana bread. 10 minutes later, the bread is prepared and baking in the oven. And the best part? This banana bread is made in one bowl, so you’ll have less dishes to clean!

To be exact you’ll probably have one mixing bowl, one spatula, the 1/2 cup, the 1/3 cup, the 1 cup, and the teaspoon to clean. If you’re really wanting to cut corners, skip the 1 cup and just use the half cup twice :)

Making Easy Banana Chocolate Chip Bread

I thought it was pretty standard to put chocolate chips in banana bread. That’s how I grew up eating it. But then I met someone who’s mind was blown when I told them that I put chocolate chips in my banana bread. It’s funny because I don’t think I’ve ever made banana bread without chocolate chips.

That would be like making a PB&J without the jelly, it just doesn’t seem right :)

But if you really prefer your banana bread without chocolate chips, you can (gasp!) skip them.

If you’re all about the chocolate chips, lets do an air high five! But, I do have this teeny tiny weird obsession about banana bread and chocolate chips. I must use mini chocolate chips.

That way the chips are evenly distributed and I don’t end up with a large pile of melted chocolate in one area. If you only have regular chocolate chips on hand, you can give them a quick chop on a cutting board to get them into smaller pieces.

We also love making this Easy Banana Chocolate Chip Bread into banana bread muffins. That will cut the baking time down to about 15-20 minutes. I think you’ll fall in love with how easy this recipe is and how much it reminds you of the bread your mom or Grandma used to bake!

I’m following on Pinterest now but am not on Blog Lovin’. I just got an iphone and noticed it’s got an free app version for it. Do you like it? I’m tempted to add it to my phone and if I do, I’ll add ya!

  12. Yum! Chocolate chip banana bread is a family favorite in this house. We’ll have to give your simple recipe a try. Thanks for sharing!

  13. This looks so good. Do you have to add anything else when you use gluten free flour? and is there a gluten free baking soda? I know that there is a gluten free baking powder. I keep thinking I should go bake on a wheat free diet. Thanks for sharing on foodie friends friday and remember to come back and vote tomorrow.

    • Hi Marlys! Sometimes I add a very tiny portion of xanthan gum (a baking agent to help make gluten free baked goods have a better texture, cuts out crumbly-ness). I use Arm and Hammer Baking Soda and have never had any problems!

  14. Welcome to blogging. LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe, I have not had the exact one, but close. So glad you found my blog. Enjoy.

  15. Banana bread is my absolute favorite sweet bread. And with chocolate chips? Even better. :-) Thanks so much for linking up at What’s in Your Kitchen Wednesday.

  24. These make great muffins too. Just taught my teen and preteen sons how to make it. Great one bowl recipe for when they go off to college one day.

  25. So, I’d never MADE banana bread before. But I found this recipe on Pinterest tonight, saw that I had everything for it, and made it. SO GOOD. Boyfriend has eaten 3 slices already. Only thing I changed, I added more chocolate chips on the top, because…duh, chocolate. :) I’m definitely looking through the rest of your recipes!

    • Hi Jordan! Of course adding more chocolate chips is always a great idea! We’re happy to have you!

  26. This looks delicious! Im off to make it right now!

  27. Hi! Just found this, and it looks delicious! Going to make it for Thanksgiving with the family…does the pan need to be greased?

  28. Hi!
I made two loaves for my dad’s poker party. The recipe was really easy to follow and really easy to double. In addition to chocolate chips I also added peanut butter chips.. it was a hit!

  29. I love banana bread, but adding chocolate chips? Perfect!

  30. Had to laugh at skipping the 1 cup and using the 1/2 cup twice…I do that all the time! But I still manage to use every utensil in the kitchen…

  31. Banana bread is the ultimate comfort food for me! Especially when there’s chocolate involved :) Pinned!

  32. I do have some very brown bananas at home that I need something to do with!

  33. ONE bowl? I’m sold! Banana bread is one of my favorite snacks, especially with chocolate chips!

  34. I literally have brown bananas on my cupboard – I can’t wait to make this bread!! Pinned!

  35. Oh wow, Beth, this banana bread looks amazing! Guess I’ll be picking up a bunch in the morning!

  36. This is how I make banana bread too. Love the chocolate chip addition! Have a good weekend, Beth :)

  37. Just made this, but substituted the veggie oil with coconut oil, and also added organic coconut flakes….topped the bread with extra deliciousness of chocolate chips and coconut flakes. So yummmmy

  38. I made this banana bread over the weekend and it came out delicious! I love hoe easy it was and my favorite part was that it was all done in one bowl. I didn’t have white flour so i used whole wheat pastry flour and I didn’t even taste a different. I also loved how this recipe had oil instead of butter…thank you for sharing! We really enjoyed it!

  39. Can I use butter instead of oil and if so how much?

  40. Made this last night (into 10 good size muffins) and they are delicious!! I saw ‘one bowl and 10 minute prep’ and was sold! I only had 2 large ripe bananas but that was still plenty. I had regular size semi-sweet chocolate chips, but I chopped them a little and it was fine. I couldn’t be happier with this simple recipe! Thanks. :)

  41. Love this recipe! Use it every time both with and without chocolate chips. Stays so moist. Good for days…although it doesn’t usually last more than one or two! If your kids are like mine and are weird about chunks in banana bread, I just toss mine into my food processor for a few pulses–just enough to get them to mix well and not be chunky. Works well and gives cakes and breads a nice texture. Plus, it’s much easier than mushing them yourself!

  42. I made muffins and left out the chocolate chips.  The flavor was great, but they turned out a little dry.  Any suggestions on how to fix that?

  43. Just came across this recipe today. Super easy to make, I had my 4 year old help and he loved helping! Just waiting for it to come out of the oven! Thanks for sharing this!

  44. Love this recipe. My son is obsessed with it and we make it at least once a month. Going to add a twist with peanut butter soon.

  45. I made this 4 times last week because my husband and son fought over it all week. They loved it! It was nuts! I finally got it together and times the recipe by 3. Hopefully it lasts a little longer this time around. Great recipe!

  47. Just put mine in the oven yum yum, another twist Try adding walnuts too!! Tastes sooo good

  48. Just made this and it is SO good! And so unbelievably easy! My boyfriend is the same as your friend- doesn’t like chocolate chips in his banana bread. I debated turning this into muffins as per your instructions so I could have mine with chocolate chips and he could have his without, but I kept it as a bread because I love the crunchy outside crust of banana bread.

    • Glad you loved it! I have a hard time NOT putting chocolate chips in my banana bread!!

  49. I just realized I’ve never commented on this recipe, which is ridiculous, because we’ve probably made it at least, I dunno, 3 dozen times? It’s a total morning staple as muffins. We use melted butter instead of veg oil (I’m allergic to most of them), and don’t add the sugar. We also put the chips in as a topping, so that I get my dark chocolate, my oldest gets her caramel chips, and the youngest gets white chocolate chips. :) We LOVE IT! Thank you for sharing.

  50. I just put a loaf in the oven and my house smells heavenly on this dreary day 😃. Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy this recipe. My daughter discovered it and sent me the pin, and it is a family favorite. So simple and quick, her 4 year old can make it with very little help

  51. Made this recipe- short one banana so chopped up and apple. Used regular size milk chocolate chips. Turned out awesome!!! Easy too! Baked in convection oven.
