Microwave Peanut Butter Fudge Recipe Tips
Making Peanut Butter Fudge in the microwave can be a breeze with the right techniques and tips. Here are some tips for success:
- Use High-Quality Ingredients: Start with fresh, high-quality ingredients, including good white chocolate chips and peanut butter. The quality of your ingredients will impact the flavor and texture of the fudge.
- Microwave Settings: Use a microwave-safe bowl and a microwave with adjustable power settings. Avoid cooking fudge on high power as it can lead to overcooking and a gritty texture. Start with 50% power and adjust as needed. Stir the fudge mixture thoroughly and evenly before microwaving and between each microwave session. This helps distribute the heat and prevent hot spots that can lead to uneven cooking. Instead of microwaving for an extended period, microwave the mixture in short bursts, typically for 30-second intervals. This allows for better control over the cooking process and helps prevent overcooking.
- Patience: Don’t rush the process. Allow the fudge to cool completely at room temperature before cutting it into squares. This helps it set properly and maintain a smooth texture.
- Storage: Store the fudge in an airtight container at room temperature. Avoid refrigeration, as it can cause condensation and alter the texture.
By following these tips and practicing good microwave techniques, you can make delicious and smooth peanut butter fudge with ease. The key is to be patient, precise, and attentive throughout the process.
Why is my peanut butter fudge dry and crumbly?
Fudge is all about sugar crystallization. The number one reason fudge turns out dry and crumbly is because the fudge mixture was overcooked / overheated.
Unfortunately, with microwave fudge there is no good way to salvage overcooked fudge. But I recommend microwaving the fudge ingredients in a glass bowl for even heating.
How to Store Microwave Peanut Butter Fudge
Store fudge in an airtight container. Fudge will last for 2-3 weeks in a container on the counter. If you want fudge to last longer (up to 4 weeks), store it in an airtight container in the fridge.
Can I freeze Peanut Butter Microwave Fudge?
Yes! You can freeze fudge as a large slab or fudge that’s been cut into pieces. For either method, place the fudge in the fridge for 1 hour to chill, then wrap the fudge tightly in plastic wrap and place inside a zip lock freezer bag. Fudge can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To thaw, place the fudge in the fridge for 24 hours.
If you want perfectly square pieces of fudge, I recommend using a ruler and a sharp knife. Cleaning your knife between each cut will help create clean cut lines.
