Spider Web Meringues

An easy Halloween treat – edible spider web meringues! Display these spider webs with plastic spider rings for a spooky look!

Looking for an edible spider web? We’ve have a fun solution – spider web meringues!

A meringue is a fluffy and airy sweet treat. Traditionally meringues are piped into swirls and then baked until they are hardened.

These spider web meringues are dainty and cute, and definitely something that the kids would pick out at a halloween party!

Adding a plastic spider ring to each web pulls the whole look together!

If you don’t have these supplies, you can find all of them at Michaels.

You can also add sprinkles or sanding sugar to the webs, I think it makes them pop! Be sure to add the sprinkles before baking the meringues.

To get a better idea of how to pipe the webs, be sure to watch our short video below. You can see how I drew the meringues and it’s very easy once you get the hang of it.

Ingredients

  • 2 large egg whites
  • ¼ tsp cream of tartar
  • tsp salt
  • ½ cup sugar
  • halloween sprinkles or sanding sugar, optional
  • flavor extract, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200º F. Line a baking sheet (or multiple) with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites, cream of tartar and salt on medium-high speed until foamy.
  • Increase the mixer speed to high and begin to add sugar 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat until the meringue is glossy and forms stiff peaks. If you want to add flavored extract to the meringues, do so now.
  • Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fit with a small round piping tip (I used a Wilton #5). Begin to pipe spider webs onto the parchment paper – make sure they don’t touch, but fit in as many as you can on one baking sheet. Add sprinkles or sanding sugar to the spider webs if desired.
  • Bake the spider webs for 25-35 minutes or until they are hardened. Let the meringues cool completely in the oven with the heat turned off. Carefully remove the spider webs from the parchment paper, display on a tray (filled with chocolate chips or m&ms) and add plastic spider rings on top of each web. The webs can be made a few days in advance.
