Who’s the grill master at your house? If roasted vegetables are on the dinner menu usually I assume the task as grill master. If we’re putting chicken or hamburgers on the grill, I leave that job to Ryan because I tend to overcook the meat.

I asked Ryan if he would be able to pass his grilling knowledge onto me, because ladies should know how to make a tasty burger too! So this past weekend I attended Ryan’s Grilling School. I don’t think I would go again, the conference fee was so expensive.. haha, just kidding!

I told Ryan that I wanted to make a Southwestern Frito Burger but we didn’t have all the supplies, so I checked Walmart’s website to see what was on sale, and they had a great deal on Kraft Cheese and Kraft BBQ sauce and they always have reasonable beef prices. If you like shopping at Walmart I definitely recommend using the rollback section on their website. It saves me time when I get to Walmart because I’m not wandering around looking for the best deal.

I stopped at Walmart and picked up everything I would need to attend Ryan’s Grilling School. Luckily I didn’t have to buy a new propane tank.. that must be covered in Class 2 of Ryan’s Grilling School.

I learned how to season the beef, adding Ryan’s secret ingredient (bbq sauce) for extra flavor. I learned what heat to grill the burger on and when to know to flip the burger. Overall I think I did a pretty good job – Ryan did say that this was the best homemade burger I’ve ever made him.. he’s a jokester because it’s the only burger I’ve ever made him!

If you like to shop at Walmart, you’ll want to hear about their current reward program called Paisley Points.

Shop for select Kraft Foods cheese brands at Walmart, scan your receipt and earn rewards. You can earn Walmart gift cards at various point levels and you’ll also be entered for a chance to win Brad Paisley memorabilia. There’s nothing better than burgers and Brad Paisley.

Southwestern Frito Burger

Total Time: 30 minutes

Serving Size: 4

Ingredients

  • Kraft Jalapeño Natural Cheese Slices
  • 2 tbsp Kraft Hickory Smoke BBQ Sauce
  • 1.5-2 pounds beef
  • 4 buns
  • onion, sliced
  • tomato, sliced
  • fresh cilantro
  • avocado, sliced
  • frito chips
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • Olive oil, small amount

Instructions

  1. Heat the grill to high.
  2. Divide the beef into 4 equal portions. On top of each portion, evenly divide the cumin, garlic powder, and 2 tbsp of Kraft BBQ Sauce. Add your desired amount of salt and pepper, mix into the beef. As you are forming the burgers, make a deep depression in the center with your thumb.
  3. Spread a small amount of olive oil onto the outside of each burger, this will prevent them from sticking to the grill. Grill the burgers until they are slightly charred on the bottom side, 3-4 minutes. Flip the burgers and cook for 4 more minutes.
  4. Remove the burgers from the grill.
  5. Place the burgers on a bun, top with Kraft Jalapeño Natural Cheese Slices, onion, tomato, cilantro, avocado, fritos, and your desired condiments.
